One-use samples. Face wipes. Ampoules. Sample sachets. Sheet masks.
They may seem convenient, but at One Love Organics, we say no to single-use skincare and samples!
Single-use skincare and samples create a lot of ugly waste in the name of beauty, and they’re not always what’s best for your skin. After a single use, can you really tell if a skincare product is right for you? We test skincare for a living, and we can’t!
That’s why all of our Trial + Travel sized products are designed to last at least one month (and sometimes more) to give you plenty of time to see if they’re a fit for your skincare needs before investing in full sizes. We also package our Trial + Travel sized products in glass whenever possible, or recyclable plastic when necessary, which cuts down on waste even more.
Beauty isn’t the only industry to blame, of course, but it does contribute a lot of unnecessary waste, which is a problem we’ve been working on for quite some time.
When we began our ECOCERT/COSMOS certification process over 8 years ago, we learned that part of the approval process was using only packaging that is completely recyclable and making an effort whenever possible to minimize the amount of packaging used. Even if we’d wanted to offer single-use products, ECOCERT doesn’t allow one-dose packaging — an initiative we fully support.
As we were researching product packaging, we learned that a majority of single-use samples produced are never even used, contributing a lot of added waste to landfills for absolutely no reason!
Here are a few simple trades you can make to be kinder to the environment (and, probably, your skin!).
Swap Your Single-Use Products
- Sheet masks for a certified organic face mask in a recyclable glass jar, like our Love + Charcoal Masque.
- Makeup wipes for a natural, biodegradable Cleansing Sponge made from the root of the konjac plant. Choose bamboo for detoxifying properties or rose clay for gentle cleansing properties.
- Single-use samples for our larger Trial + Travel sizes, packaged in glass or recyclable plastic.
- Creams for balms, like our Skin Savior Balm and Botanical E Eye Balm, which eliminate water as an ingredient. This helps them achieve three things: they’re more potent (so a little goes a looong way!); they have a longer shelf life (without water, there’s less risk of microorganism growth); and they have fewer ingredients (since they don’t need fillers, emulsifiers, and traditional preservatives). Just remember to apply balms sparingly to damp skin for a cream-like experience!
Single-use products may not be going away anytime soon, but we think these options are even better — both for your skin and for the planet!
