It’s easy to tell someone, “Love yourself,” but more difficult to describe how to do it. The first step is to practice love and kindness with yourself. It’s not selfish or narcissistic to love ourselves. When you learn to truly love yourself, you are better equipped to fill those around you with love and kindness.
It is a skill that we have to learn, something that takes time and practice. I dare say it does not come easy or naturally to anyone because we are all perfectly imperfect. For me, I have struggled with my weight for my entire life. I felt a true calling to start One Love Organics and I had the talent and knowledge to do it. But I also felt fear and panic. Would the beauty industry accept a plus-size beauty founder? Would our customers rely on my skincare advice when they learned that I was unable to diet myself into a size 6?
Obviously, I overcame my fears and anxieties to start One Love Organics. And I am happy to report that I have experienced unprecedented kindness and acceptance in both the beauty world and with our amazing customers. But it is important for me to practice love and acceptance for myself every single day.
The quote above came to me one day and I realized how true it was. Perfection is magical. But perfection is also mythical. All of us have flaws, the real struggle is just learning to love an accept those flaws as part of you. We’ve turned this quote into a phone wallpaper for you to download and add to your phone. When you have a moment of self-doubt or have a thought of self-hate or negativity, give your phone a tap and be reminded that flaws are part of the beauty. You can download the free wallpaper here.
Self-care is a high priority for me, and I hope it is part of your routine as well. Below are a few of my favorite ways to remind my being and my body that I love and honor it, just the way it is.
