We’ve heard from our OLO family time and again. Your biggest skin concerns are:
- Dull, tired-looking skin
- The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Large pores and breakouts
- Dry skin and an uneven texture
And, of course, we want to help! So we’ve combined our favorite acids and enzymes to create Botanical A Facial Cleanser specifically designed to address these concerns.
Using acids in your skincare doesn’t have to be scary. Let’s take a closer look at what they can do for you.
Why Are Acids Good For Your Skin?
The first thing you should know about acids is that there are two main types found in skincare products:
- alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) and
- beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs)
Both classes of acids help exfoliate the skin, but they have two distinct purposes. AHAs are water-soluble and so their benefits are seen primarily on the skin’s surface, while BHAs are oil-soluble and provide deeper exfoliation within pores. We love them both and included them in a new launch: Botanical A Facial Cleanser.
Lactic acid is an AHA, which means it can help to improve the look of aging skin and will help improve the appearance of fine lines when used regularly. It’s my personal favorite because I have sensitive skin, so I want something that won’t leave my face feeling stripped and irritated. Lactic acid helps improve the skin’s natural moisture factor, which is the way the skin keeps itself hydrated. Basically, lactic acid gently exfoliates but also helps to keep the skin moisturized and feeling less dry.
Salicylic acid is a member of the BHA family, and it is effective at helping alleviate clogged pores and blackheads, making it a great ingredient choice for those with larger pores who want to minimize their appearance. It can also help keep skin clear.
Don’t Forget Your Sun Protection
AHA and BHA products can be extremely effective and still gentle on your skin, but you should always try a patch test before using any new product. You also need to exercise caution when in the sun (year-round!) after using any sort of acids, since any type of exfoliation may leave your skin more prone to UV-damage and sunburn. We recommend using an SPF 30 or higher mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide, wearing protective clothing, and limiting sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward.
Adding acids to your routine may sound intimidating, but when done right, it’s easy, gentle, and – most importantly – effective!
